Offered for auction is a Winchester Model 63, serial number 39856, manufactured in 1940. This semi-automatic rifle is chambered for .22 LR Super Speed & Super-X and features a 23-inch barrel. The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to the barrel, while the rear sight is a "U"-notch leaf and elevator sight dovetailed to the rear of the barrel.
The rifle's stock configuration includes two-piece smooth walnut with a semi-pistol grip, nose cap, straight comb, and steel buttplate. The wood displays various nicks, scratches, and impressions, with notable chips on the toe of the stock and the left-hand side of the forend. A crack is forming about two inches rear of the upper tang, and there are a couple of compression marks on the right-hand side of the stock, just forward of the buttplate. The length of pull measures 13 ½ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate.
The rifle's finish is blued with a brown patina. The bluing has worn away on the high spots, particularly on the barrel, leaving a brown patina in its place. The receiver has some bluing remaining but is also developing a brown patina. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and slight frosting, indicating it has been well-maintained.
Overall, the rifle is in good condition with the action locking up tightly. The mechanics are sound, with the action and crossbolt safety functioning correctly and showing light operational wear.
